Countering Violent Extremism in Iraq and Syria: A Regional Approach
In the wake of recent developments in the Middle East, with a surge in violent extremism and the rise of the ‘Islamic State’, the region is faced with yet another crisis in the midst of many others. Countering extremist groups that have infiltrated Syrian and Iraqi territories requires a regional approach, and is in the interest of the immediate neighbors such as Lebanon, Turkey, Iran, and Jordan, as well as international actors such as the European Union, the United States, and the Russian Federation.
The EastWest Institute’s Brussels Center (EWI) will host a two-day roundtable consultation focusing on a regional approach to Countering Violent Extremism in Syria and Iraq on November 13-14, 2014.
Participation is upon invitation only. For further information, please contact Wael Abdul-Shafi by e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
